How do you make easy energy bites?

Energy bites are one of the easiest snacks to make. Simply stir all the ingredients together, form the mixture into 1 tablespoon sized balls, and chill.

This recipe has the additional step of melting the peanut butter, honey, and chocolate before adding them to the dry mixture, but this takes just a couple of minutes in the microwave.

These energy bites can be made and be chilling in the refrigerator in under 20 minutes. It’s such a quick and easy snack to make, and the kids love them!

Can I use old fashioned oats for energy balls?

I do not recommend using old fashioned oats for these energy balls instead of quick oats. This is because the large size of the old fashioned rolled oats makes the balls less likely to stick together well. You may end up with crumbly energy balls, rather than nice compact bites that pack well for on the go snacks.

If old fashioned oats are all you have on hand, you can give them a quick whirl in a food processor to break them down a bit and they should then work okay. Don’t process them until they’re flour, you just want them to be a bit smaller so they’re more similar to quick oats, and then they should work just fine in this recipe.

How to make Chocolate Peanut Butter Energy Balls:

  • The mixture will seem too dry at first and you’ll think there’s not enough liquid, but just keep stirring and it will all come together after a bit.
  • I like to scoop the mixture into 1 tablespoon portions with a cookie scoop, and then form each mound into a tight ball with my hands.
  • Place all the energy balls on a wax paper lined baking sheet to chill them. Once they’ve chilled for at least an hour, you can pile them together in an airtight container to store. They’re best stored in the fridge.

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped peanuts
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
